The Sauce of Ten Years Arc is the 43rd story arc covered in the Ranma ½ manga, spanning five chapters. This arc was included in volume 19 of the Weekly Shōnen Sunday tankōbon and volume 17 of the Viz Media tankōbon.
Plot Summary[]
When Ukyo finally opens her secret sauce and gets a taste, she discovers it to be foul. Ranma feels guilty when he realizes that the sauce was actually made by him in a panic when he spilled the original. He makes up to her by offering his place to stay until she feels better, but problems soon emerge[1]. Ukyo is unable to get over the sauce but Ranma refuses to let her taste it. He also cannot let her know the truth. Ukyo then remembers the promise Ranma made to take care of her if the sauce turned out well. Ranma tells her that her sauce is indeed good despite the contrary and Ukyo is convinced that Ranma remembered the promise, even when he didn't[2]. Akane eventually learns the real truth and beseeches Ranma to tell Ukyo. But when he does, she doesn't believe him, thinking him to have been manipulated by Akane. Nabiki then attempts to help out by proclaiming that Ranma and Akane are already married[3].
Now a pseudo-newlywed, Ranma and Akane try various tactics to appear to be deeply in love with each other but are unable to convince Ukyo. She successfully gets Ranma to sympathize with her and he renews his promise to take care of her, much to Akane's dismay[4]. Now believing himself to be trapped in a corner, Ranma plans on forcing Ukyo to leave, but is unsuccessful. He is finally confronted by both Akane and Ukyo. He believes that the only way to diffuse the situation is to get rid of the sauce and drinks it all down. Ukyo then feels better and returns to being a chef as Ranma lay in bed[5].
