The Hayato Arc is the 98th story arc covered in the Ranma ½ manga, spanning two chapters. This story was included in Volume 33 of the Weekly Shōnen Sunday tankōbon and volume 31 of the Viz Media tankōbon.
Plot Summary[]
Ukyo begins finding octopus masks in all of her okonomiyaki. With help from Akane and Ranma, they meet Ukyo's old rival Hayato Myojin. He is seen donning a mask after losing a fight with Ukyo and which he will not remove under any circumstances. When Ranma finally removes it, he finds Hayato is perfectly normal[1]. It's revealed that Hayato got into a fight with Ukyo six years ago over which food is better, okonomiyaki or takoyaki. The bet was that whoever loses must wear the mask for rest of their lives, something Hayato has taken very seriously. He takes her to a nearby construction yard and finally defeats her, but is unable to remove the mask after Ranma lined it with glue[2].
