  • In Volume 4 of A.I. Love You, Hitoshi Kobe states that forty-chan has a Ranma complex.
  • In the anime Devil Hunter Yohko, when Yohko's alarm clock wakes her up there is a large selection of manga behind it called "Ranchi ⅓", which even matches the older style Ranma ½ Volumes.
  • In the manga series Rosario + Vampire Season II, there is a character who shares a strong resemblance to that of Ranma Saotome, to make the resemblance even more obvious in the characters debut there also appears a Panda (referencing Genma's cursed form).
  • Although not referenced directly in the story, Ranma ½ is continually mentioned in the "chat" sections of Fushigi Yûgi.
  • The anime series Slayers has two characters called Mimi and Nene who have a very strong resemblance to Shampoo.
    • In the Slayers novels, there is also a character called Sherra who shares a strong resemblance to Ranma's female form.
  • In the anime Hayate the Combat Butler, there are two references to Ranma ½, in episode 6 there is a Ranma statue and in episode 20 there is a book in the library is Ranma ½.
  • In Volume 4 of Case Closed, while Conan is looking up information in a bookstore the other kids are looking at Shounen Sunday which has an image of Ranma on the cover.
  • Chapter 24 of Kingyo Used Books, features a storyline where the characters Kinko and Sudo bond over enjoyment of Ranma ½.
  • Ranma's female form has a cameo in the first episode of Here Is Greenwood, where she appears on the anime club picket sign.
  • In episode 20 of Ronin Warriors, Ranma appears crossing a street.
  • In Otaku no video, in the second episode: More Otaku No Video 1985. The Otaku in the final live action interview was carrying a shopping bag depicting artwork of Akane Tendo, Female Ranma, & Shampoo.
  • In Magical Shopping Arcade episode 4 Fired up! Abenobashi Hong Kong Martial Arts Shopping District, the panda who teaches martial arts is based on Genma in his cursed form.

TV Shows[]

  • One episode of the show Robot Chicken references Ranma ½, more specifically the idea of having a Spring of Drowned Girl.
  • In the Live-action adaptation of One-Pound Gospel, Uedo can be seen reading a Volume of the Ranma ½ manga.
  • In the Mexican dub of The Simpsons episode Pygmoelian the Doctor who Moe replaced says he played the role of Ranma for several years (referring to the fact the voice actor of the Doctor is the same as Ranma's Mexican voice actor).
  • According to Beast Wars International when Megatron makes "oyakusoku pozu" (promise pose) with his hand this a reference to Ranma ½, due to David Kaye's (who voices Megatron) involvement with Ranma ½ (as Soun Tendo).
  • Episode 5 of the show Kappa Mikey features Shampoo in Chibi form, she also appears in the opening sequence of the show.
  • Someone involved with Star Trek: The Next Generation was a fan of anime. There are quite a few references/shout outs to various anime. One such reference is a Ranma ½ gyro block which is said to be an important component of nanites in the TNG episode Evolution.
  • In the episode "Scare Master" of My Little Pony: Friendship is magic, You can briefly see a ponified version of Ranma on a hanging decoration, along with other anime character in a similar design. In the episode "Stranger than Fanfiction", Ranma appears on a cardboard cutout in the same art style as the one on the hanging decoration.
  • In episode 4 of Neo Yokio, Hamptons Water Magic, their is a subplot based around Ranma 1/2. Two characters Lexy and Gottlieb jump into a cursed swimming pool. When they resurface, Lexy gets turned into a girl while Gottlieb gets turned into a Panda, mirroring Ranma and Genma falling into the cursed springs. Their is also background music similar to Ranma 1/2's soundtrack.

Films[]

  • Towards the end of the Speed Racer movie, there is a scene in a hotel room where Ninja's attack them. The ninja goes flying and things fall from his pockets, amongst the things that fall from his pockets is his keys which has a P-chan key ring.
  • In the movie Calmi Cuori Appassionati (Between Calmness and Passion) there is a scene where Ranma ½ is playing on a television screen.
  • In the movie Nicky Larson et le parfum de Cupidon (2018), in the strip club scene, Nicky asks a waitress "Ranma, un demi, s'il te plait" ("Ranma, a half-pint please").
  • Domee Shi cited Ranma 1/2 as an inspiration to her film Turning Red.

Comics and other Printed Media[]

  • Ben Dunn's (creator of the manga-style comic book, Ninja High School) book on How to Draw Manga features an image of a person who looks very similar to Ranma's female form.
  • The comic Legion of Super-Heroes has a character called Gen'ma, who is a talking Panda, which is most likely a reference to Genma from Ranma ½.
  • Megumi Hayashibara's autobiographical comic makes mentions of her involvement in the series.
  • In one of the Superman comic books a Ranma ½ poster is in Superman's (Clark Kent) room.
  • There is a reference to Ranma ½ in one of the Pinky and the Brain comic books from 1997. Part of one of Brain's plans for world domination involved going to China and falling into the "Spring of the Drowned Martial Arts Master" to win a competition with a chain of dojo's as the award.

Other Media[]

  • In the 1988 video game Mahjong Shikaku, one of the opponents is a green haired girl who bears a resemblance to Female Ranma.
  • On April 16th 2012, the Japanese online game, Concerto Gate Forte added several costumes from Ranma ½ characters as downloadable content.
  • In the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Expansion, the Pandaren starting area Pools of Change are a reference to the cursed springs of Jusenkyo where Ranma and his dad trained and were cursed.
  • The 2012 video game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair features a quote from Monokuma referencing Ranma turning into a woman when splashed with water.
  • The 2016 video game Shantae: Half-Genie Hero was titled after Ranma ½, which game director Matt Bozon claims has heavily influenced his drawing style.[1]
  • The 2017 video game The Wardrobe, features a kitchen near the start of the game which features two plushies of Female Ranma & Panda Genma in the kitchen sink.
  • T'nique Arcana is a playable character in the original Star Ocean and its remake, Star Ocean: First Departure. T’nique is a martial artist who bears a strong resemblance to Ranma Saotome.
